About the Legal Counsel Service (LCS) and the role

Our highly experienced Legal Counsel Service team supports our clients in the manner of an in-house general counsel providing pragmatic and commercial day-to-day legal advice, including commercial, intellectual property, regulatory, data protection and general compliance advice. For many of our clients we act as the main legal support for the business. For some clients we provide extra capacity to an existing in-house legal team, to deal with a specific work stream, a specific project or simply for extra ad-hoc capacity.

You will be part of an experienced team working closely with clients in a range of industries including some prominent brands. Responsibilities

  • Act as a dedicated legal contact for LCS clients, including managing incoming requests for advice.
  • Advise clients from a range of industry sectors on day -to-day commercial and intellectual property law and wider legal issues relating to their business activities.
  • Prepare considered, accurate and clear advice for clients, identifying risks and providing solutions-driven, commercial guidance always tailored to the specific needs and the context of their business.
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts, documents, and letters to fulfil client’s objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and arrange and attend meetings where required to take instructions, gather information, and progress matters.

Skills and experience

  • Qualified as a Solicitor in Scotland or in England & Wales.
  • Trained at a leading UK law firm, in-house experience beneficial but not essential.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years post qualified experience in commercial (including data protection) and IP. Experience in food and drink law would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Organised and methodical approach to work with excellent attention to detail, drafting, critical and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload appropriately.
  • Ability to assess risk profiles in the context of a client’s business and advise clients on consequences and solutions in a pragmatic and commercial manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with clients.
  • Ability to lead on matters independently, use initiative and take responsibility for matters.
  • Enthusiastic, approachable, and able to form strong professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
